Here is the complete photo of the painting, 38×46,5cm.
In May of 2019, I, Harutyun Archi Galentz certified this oil painting to be an original by my grandfather Harutyun Kalentz (1910-1968).
This painting was given as a present by the artist in his studio in Yerevan, Soviet Armenia to a Paris based merchant, a well known art collector and donor Mr. Karpis Roger Tcherpachian during his visit to Armenia in 1967 or 1968. According to the statement of the collector’s wife Mrs. Lizet Tcherpachian, the painting was from 1964 and Harutyun Kalentz mentioned that this is a portrait of a Georgian artist. It is important to mention, that “artist” can mean an actor in Armenian as well. This portrait from Tcherpachians family is extraordinarely expressive and could be compared to the famous Valentina Khmara portrait from 1961 in the National Gallery of Armenia.
“Portrait of a Gerorgian Artist” has been kept in the country home of the Tcherpachian family near Giverny, France, among other paintings by Armenian artists, such as a composition by artist’s wife Armine Kalentz and my father Saro Galentz. Photos of paintings inside of the country home have been shown to me by the granddaughter of Mr. Tcherpachian. Armine Kalentz has described the long lasting and intense connection to the Tcherpachian family in her second book “Mtorumner” (Published in Armenia around 2000, pages 67 to 70)
